Un piccolo riassunto di questo viaggio alla ricerca della sostenibilità all’interno della blockchain grazie a bitgreen.
A novembre 2022 abbiamo deciso con un piccolo team di InformEtici di imbarcarci in questa esperienza, tecnicamente molto complessa ma che ci ha lasciato davvero parecchi spunti di riflessione e che speriamo soprattutto non finisca qui!
Dopo un paio mesi di R&D siamo riusciti a far funzionare il nostro primo nodo come associazione (al link potete vedere anche l’uptime, dato di cui possiamo davvero essere orgogliosi, tenendo presente il nostro contributo volontario) che oggi tra l’altro è in testa a tutti come opportunità di staking (se non hai idea di quello di cui parliamo ricordati di studiare sulla piattaforma corsi, lezione 4 mining vs staking).
L’idea è di continuare con la formazione al fine di fornire anche opportunità alternative e/o complementari al sistema economico ai nostri soci (come diciamo qui) in modo da poter allargare questa opportunità a più persone, ma purtroppo far girare questo nodo costa ed anche parecchio …
Come ben sapete da un po’ di tempo abbiamo migrato tutti i servizi da Azure/Aws a Infomaniak (quest’ultima cloud è a zero emissioni) modo da essere più sostenibili. Tutti tranne il nodo bitgreen, e quindi eccoci qua … Stiamo cercando una soluzione che sia sostenibile anche economicamente (da Infomaniak lo spazio fisico costa troppo) abbiamo comunque la macchina per farlo, ma ci manca lo storage (che avevamo su azure).
Conseguenza, a fine anno ci troveremo costretti a chiudere il servizio. Per cui se qualcuno di voi avessere “stakato” sul nostro nodo Vi invitiamo a toglierli da qui. Ce la metteremo tutta a “tenerlo su”. Per i più nerd abbiamo bisogno di circa 1Tb da agganciare almeno in iscsi o similari, ad oggi 02/12/2023 la blockchain di polkadot + bitgreen + servizi connessi pesa circa 440Gb).
Naturalmente anche senza nodo, non ci fermeremo! Continueremo a lavorare sulle blochain sostenibili 😉
A small summary of this journey in search of sustainability within the blockchain thanks to bitgreen.
In November 2022, a small team of InformEtici decided to embark on this experience, which was technically very complex but left us with a lot to think about. We hope that it does not end here!
After a few months of R&D, we managed to get our first node up and running as an association (you can also see the uptime at the link, a figure of which we can be truly proud, considering our voluntary contribution). Today, our node is also at the top of the list in terms of staking opportunities (if you don’t know what we’re talking about, remember to study on the courses platform, lesson 4 mining vs staking).
The idea is to continue with training in order to provide our members with alternative and/or complementary opportunities to the economic system, so that we can extend this opportunity to more people. Unfortunately, running this node costs a lot of money.
As you know, we have migrated all of our services from Azure/AWS to Infomaniak (the latter cloud is carbon neutral) in order to be more sustainable. All except the bitgreen node, and so here we are. We are looking for a solution that is also economically sustainable (physical space from Infomaniak is too expensive). We still have the machine to do it, but we lack the storage (which we had on Azure).
As a result, we will be forced to close the service at the end of the year. So if any of you have “staked” on our node, we invite you to remove them from here. We will do everything we can to “keep it up”. For the nerds among you, we need about 1TB of storage, connected to the machine at least in iscsi or similar. As of today, 02/12/2023, the polkadot blockchain + bitgreen + connected services weighs about 440GB).
Of course, even without a node, we will not stop! We will continue to work on sustainable blockchains.
